The "Dream Super Express Hikari" made a spectacular start to the Tokaido Shinkansen line linking Tokyo and Shin-Osaka.
Just five years after construction began, the 0-series Hikari made its grand debut in response to the nation's mission to build the Shinkansen. As the world's first high-speed train with a top speed of over 200 kilometers per hour, it demonstrated to the world the strength of Japan, which had achieved post-war reconstruction.
Sixty years have passed since then, and a stylish memorial watch has been born to pay tribute to the original 0-series Shinkansen, which carried the dreams, hopes and memories of countless people. The image of the 0-series, with its striking two-tone blue and white color, is expressed on a beautifully gradient dial. The left and right subdials are designed with the distinctive 0-series headlights lined up vertically, in tribute to the charming front face that has been familiar to many for many years.
