The Seiko 5 Sports x Honda MOTOCOMPO Collaboration Limited Edition (HDB010J) is one of Seiko's most charming and precisely considered collaboration releases in years — a watch that doesn't simply reference the Honda MOTOCOMPO, but translates its entire design philosophy into a wearable object. The MOTOCOMPO was Honda's answer to a question nobody had thought to ask: what if you could fold a motorcycle into the trunk of your car? Released in 1981 alongside the Honda City, the MOTOCOMPO weighed just 42kg, folded flat, and came in launch colours of red, white, and sunshine yellow. It sold for the equivalent of $332. It became an icon. This watch celebrates the MOTOCOMPO's 45th anniversary with the same sunshine yellow on the dial, a black Honda logo stripe, Seiko Caliber 4R36 automatic movement, a nylon strap stamped "CARRYING POINT" and "INSERTION POINT" after the tie-down attachment points used to secure the scooter, "TURN" engraved on the crown referencing the fuel cock, and packaging inspired by the corrugated cardboard box the MOTOCOMPO shipped in.
