The Seiko 5 Sports x Honda MOTOCOMPO Collaboration Limited Edition (HDB010J) is one of Seiko's most charming and precisely considered collaboration releases in years — a watch that doesn't simply reference the Honda MOTOCOMPO, but translates its entire design philosophy into a wearable object. The MOTOCOMPO was Honda's answer to a question nobody had thought to ask: what if you could fold a motorcycle into the trunk of your car? Released in 1981 alongside the Honda City, the MOTOCOMPO weighed just 42kg, folded flat, and came in launch colours of red, white, and sunshine yellow. It sold for the equivalent of $332. It became an icon. This watch celebrates the MOTOCOMPO's 45th anniversary with the same sunshine yellow on the dial, a black Honda logo stripe, Seiko Caliber 4R36 automatic movement, a nylon strap stamped "CARRYING POINT" and "INSERTION POINT" after the tie-down attachment points used to secure the scooter, "TURN" engraved on the crown referencing the fuel cock, and packaging inspired by the corrugated cardboard box the MOTOCOMPO shipped in. Limited to 8,000 pieces worldwide.
Key Features:
- Sunshine Yellow Dial — MOTOCOMPO's Launch Colour: The matte yellow dial reproduces the exact sunshine yellow from the MOTOCOMPO's 1981 launch palette — the colour most associated with the vehicle's iconic identity. A black horizontal bar runs across the dial bearing the Honda logo, with the Day/Date window integrated into the stripe at 3 o'clock. The "AUTOMATIC" text at 6 o'clock is set in a font inspired by the MOTOCOMPO's own logo typography.
- "TURN" Crown — The Fuel Cock Reference: The crown is engraved with "TURN" — a direct reference to the fuel cock on the MOTOCOMPO, which required a turn to open before the engine could start. A small detail that only makes sense if you know the bike, and immediately clicks when you do.
- "CARRYING POINT" & "INSERTION POINT" Nylon Strap: The black nylon strap is marked "CARRYING POINT" at the keeper loops and "INSERTION POINT" at the tip — referencing the anchor points used to strap the MOTOCOMPO securely into a car boot. The kind of collaboration detail that goes far beyond a logo placement.
- Seiko Caliber 4R36 — Automatic with Hand-Winding & Hacking: Powered by Seiko's reliable 4R36 automatic movement with approximately 41 hours of power reserve, hand-winding capability, and a hacking seconds hand for precise time-setting. Day and date display at 3 o'clock.
- MOTOCOMPO Silhouette Caseback — Individually Numbered: The caseback bears the MOTOCOMPO's silhouette alongside "Limited Edition" text and each watch's individual serial number from the 8,000-piece worldwide run. Black hard-coated stainless steel case, 36.4mm diameter.
- Corrugated Cardboard-Inspired Packaging: Presented in a special box designed to evoke the corrugated cardboard shipping carton used to deliver the original MOTOCOMPO — the same packaging that arrived at Honda dealers in 1981. The box is itself a collector's piece.
