The MAZDA Chronograph Watch (BF9504) is the third Seiko x Mazda collaboration — a standard model designed for daily wear alongside any Mazda, where the MAZDA SPIRIT RACING model was designed for the motorsport programme. The design brief is Mazda's "subtraction aesthetic" (引き算の美学) — the principle that guided the RX-Vision concept, the Mazda3's bodywork, and every significant Mazda design since Ikuo Maeda articulated it as the brand's direction. Applied to a watch: remove everything that doesn't need to be there, then make what remains as precise as possible.
The dial is grey — two different black and grey metal textures creating depth across the subdial and main dial surfaces, a technique borrowed directly from Mazda's approach to surface modelling. The only colour is red: the tip of the stopwatch seconds hand and the crown. Two details, same colour, maximum restraint. The typeface is Mazda Type, Mazda's proprietary font. At 6 o'clock, the text "ESTD 1920 HIROSHIMA, JAPAN" — Mazda's founding year and city, the same text on the caseback. Not an anniversary model, not a limited edition: a permanent statement of origin placed where it will be read every time the subdial is checked.
The crystal is Curve Hardlex — curved mineral glass, making its debut in the Mazda x Seiko series. The curvature creates three-dimensional depth on the dial and changes the watch's face depending on the viewing angle, a quality that Mazda explicitly connects to their approach to car surface design. Two bands are included: a metal bracelet for daily and professional wear, and a black leather band with brown edge painting — the brown edge visible from the side, a detail that gives the leather band a different character from above and in profile. Available from October 23, 2026. Also available through Mazda dealers from October 29.
Key Features:
- Mazda "Subtraction Aesthetic" — Grey Dial, Red Crown + Seconds Tip Only: The design removes every colour element except two: the tip of the stopwatch seconds hand and the crown, both red. The grey dial uses two different metal textures to create depth without adding elements. This is the "引き算の美学" (subtraction aesthetic) applied to watchmaking — the same principle that produced the Mazda3's sculpture-over-ornament bodywork.
- Curve Hardlex Crystal — First in the Mazda x Seiko Series: Curved Hardlex mineral glass, making its debut across the Mazda x Seiko collaboration range. The curvature adds three-dimensional depth to the dial and creates different appearances at different viewing angles — a quality Mazda directly links to their surface design philosophy, where the same bodywork reads differently in different light.
- ESTD 1920 HIROSHIMA, JAPAN — Dial + Caseback, Mazda Type Font: Mazda's founding year and city appear at 6 o'clock on the dial and on the caseback in laser engraving. Set in Mazda Type, Mazda's proprietary typeface, alongside all other text on the dial. Not limited edition text — permanent, on a standard model, as a statement of heritage rather than a commemorative detail.
- Metal Bracelet + Black Leather (Brown Edge) — 2 Bands, Seiko Quartz, 10ATM, Made in Japan: Metal bracelet (108g, up to 20cm wrist) and black leather band with brown edge painting included. 20mm lug width. Stainless steel case 47.2 x 39.2 x 11.4mm. Lumibrite on hour and minute hands. 10ATM daily life reinforced water resistance. Seiko quartz ±15 sec/month, ~3yr battery. Made in Japan. 3-year warranty.
